Join in as Abraham Lincoln's Boyhood Home - Spencer County, Indiana - celebrates the 200th Birthday of our 16th President.
Lincoln Bicentennial Penny Event May 14
The second in a series of four new 2009 one cent coins will be made available to the public for the first time here in Spencer County - Lincoln's Boyhood Home.
A special ceremony will be held Thursday, May 14, at 10 a.m. CDT at the Lincoln Amphitheatre, located inside Lincoln State Park in Lincoln City, Ind.
The event is free and open to the public. It includes musical performances by the Celebration Singers, Oak Hill Singers, and Heritage Hills Jazz Choir, artisan demonstrations and much more!
Freedom Bank will be on hand to sell the new pennies, which are from the Philadelphia Mint, following the ceremony. They may be purchased at face value at a minimum of two rolls and a maximum of 6 rolls per person.
Groups over 15 people interested in attending are encouraged to RSVP. Due to parking limitations and restricted traffic flows, people are urged to arrive at least one hour in advance. Groups of students are also encouraged to attend but should make reservations in advance.

Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial & Living Historical Farm - Abraham Lincoln grew up in Spencer County from the age of 7 to the age of 21. This memorial offers history and insight on Lincoln's 14 years of life in Southern Indiana through a visitors center, museum, and living history farm where rangers in period clothing demonstrate daily pioneer life.
Lincoln Pioneer Village and Museum - A replica village of the Lincolns' neighbors and friends, plus a museum of artifacts from the area's history including a dress owned by Abraham Lincoln's sister, Sarah and a hutch made by his father, Thomas. This site was originally a Works Progress Administration (WPA) project.
Lincoln State Park - Discover Abraham Lincoln's past throughout ten miles of hiking trails, rolling forested hills and two scenic lakes. Coming in 2009: Lincoln Bicentennial Plaza, a new monument to our nation's greatest president in honor of his 200th Birthday.
Colonel William Jones Home - Tour the historic home of a merchant employer of Abraham Lincoln and learn of early life in southern Indiana. Colonel Jones was also a Civil War veteran.
Lincoln Amphitheatre - Lincoln Amphitheatre is a covered, 1,500-seat amphitheatre that is located inside Lincoln State Park in Lincoln City, Indiana. It is the only covered outdoor venue in the nation. The world premiere of Lincoln will take place in June on the very grounds where Abraham Lincoln grew up. Enhanced by multimedia projections and period music, the story of the man considered by many to be the greatest U.S. president is expected to be a highpoint of the national celebration of the bicentennial of Lincolns birth. Audience members of all ages will gain an insight into the life of the man whose legacy continues to forge the future.
Buffalo Run Farm, Grill & Gifts - if you've never had the chance to actually see live buffalo, Buffalo Run offers this rare opportunity to you. You can also tour two authentic Lincoln-era Cabins and Native American teepee.
Lincoln Landing - The river front under the bluff at Rockport is rich with history, including the site where Abraham Lincoln launched a flatboat to transport produce to New Orleans for a local merchant in 1828.
Lincoln Ferry Park - This shaded riverfront park with picnic area is located on the historic spot where Abraham Lincoln operated a ferry service, transporting passengers out to catch a ride on passing steamboats.
